SB1343 Mandates training in sexual and gender-based harassment and abusive conduct for all non-supervisory employees, academic staff, post docs and contingent employees in California.

California law mandates Harassment Prevention Training to all non-supervisory employees every two years.

California state law mandates specific requirements for all non-supervisory employees, academic staff, post docs, and contingent employees under California Senate Bill 1343.

Among the requirements:

  • Businesses must provide training to all non-supervisory employees within six months of hire, and thereafter every two years.

    Note: Rather than tracking the training date of each employee, Stanford has chosen to retrain its non-supervisory employees, academic staff, post docs, and contingent employees every even-numbered year.
     
  • The required training must involve at least one hour of classroom or other effective interactive training and education regarding sexual and gender-based harassment, abusive conduct, discrimination, and retaliation in employment.

Learning objectives:

  • Assist California employers in changing or modifying workplace behaviors that create or contribute to “sexual harassment” as that term is defined in California and federal law; and
  • Develop, foster, and encourage a set of values in non-supervisory employees who complete mandated training and education that will assist them in recognizing, reporting, and effectively responding to incidents of sexual harassment.
